The Association of Independent Consultants offers you a unique service. Completely independent, our directors have more than 100 years of combined experience in the catering industry to provide you with expert advice.

Our experience includes work for catering contractors of all sizes, from the smallest local firm to the largest national operators. Our team uses each other's individual strengths to give you, our valued client, the best possible overall advice.

The Association was established in 2000 with the principal members RM&C Consultants Limited and Barclay Kennedy Consulting. Between us, we used to be responsible for over £100m of turnover, 30 Area Managers and 5,000 employees.

Meet our directors:

Director – Mike Pooleman:

After graduating with City & Guilds 147,151 and 152 qualifications from a four-year chef's apprenticeship, Mike worked at leading hotels and privately owned restaurants in York.

In 1975, Mike joined a major contractor being promoted to regional manager for the North of England. Directorships in two companies followed and in his last position he was responsible for the management of 247 schools & colleges with a turnover of £47m.

Mike founded RM&C Consultants Ltd In May 2000 and specialises in education catering, cleaning and facilities management (State, Private, Colleges, and Universities).

Director – Oliver Parker:

Graduating from Ealing Hotel School, Oliver became the catering manager for HMS Belfast, then a City Livery Company and in 1976, 10 & 11 Downing Street, Carlton Gardens, Lancaster House and Admiralty House.

From 1977, Oliver progressed from managing major contracts in the City of London to all the staff feeding at Gatwick airport before becoming an area manager. In 1989, he became operations director for a privately owned contractor being responsible for many 'Blue Chip' professional companies in London. In 1995 he became UK operations director for another major contract caterer.

In 2003 Oliver joined Mike Pooleman as a director of RM&C Consultants Ltd and specialises in consultancy for contract catering in business & industry, local authorities, schools and the higher education market.

Director – Steve Barclay:

As the group catering manager for Hertfordshire Health Authority, Steve became responsible for three hospitals (acute, geriatric and children).

Joining a contract caterer in 1979 as an area manager he progressed to operations director responsible for a wide range of contracts in both business and industry and the education sector.

In March 2000 Steve founded Barclay Kennedy Consulting and specialises in business & industry, education catering and has worked extensively with the BBC.
